Thank you- a message from our event director Chad Sperry
After a very busy weekend and a monumental clean up yesterday I am able to finally sit down and soak in this year's Columbia Gorge Marathon & Half Marathon. I do not know what it is about this event that is just so fun and rewarding to put on. Then it dawned on me it is the participants that truly make the event. We put on a lot of races in cycling, running and multi-sport over the course of the year but it is the Columbia Gorge Marathon were we get to serve so many wonderful people who are excited, friendly, and super stoked to be at the event. So thanks to all of you for making this event such an enjoyable experience for myself, co-owner Lori Waters and all the rest of the Breakaway Promotions Crew. We are honored and humbled that you selected our little event to attend. We know that the Pacific Northwest has a huge number of marathons and half marathons to choose from and the fact that you chose ours is very much appreciated. We wish all of you much running success through the rest of this year and hope to see all of you back next year for another great Columbia Gorge Marathon & Half Marathon.
State of the Nation Challenge
The State of the Nation Contest saw runners from 46 out of the 50 states this past year. That is incredible, but this year we want to go bigger. So we are bringing the contest back again with a goal of bringing runners from all 50 states to the beautiful Columbia River Gorge to run and have a great time. Be the first to register from your home state and receive a limited edition commemorative State of the Nation Pint Glass. Only 50 will be printed so you'll have to earn this one- they won't be for sale!
Register before January 1 and SAVE!
Experience one of the country's most spectacular and breathtaking marathons. Begin your run on the historic Columbia River Highway with its colorful fall foliage, pass by waterfalls and enjoy amazing vistas. Pass through the small town of Mosier then wind your way up to the turn around at Rowena Viewpoint which offers incredible views both to the east and west of the Columbia River Gorge. Finish your marathon on the banks of the Columbia River!
Once again we will be offering an early registration bonus to get your training started for the upcoming year. Register by January 1st and receive a “gold” registration. This entitles you to an additional $5 off the registration price and more importantly an opportunity for a refund should you need to cancel. Talk about insurance! We understand it is a long ways out so we are offering the opportunity to anyone who registers before January 1st a full refund should you get injured, have a scheduling conflict, or just plain don’t get in shape in time. Notification of non-participation and refund request must be received at least 30 days in advance of race (exceptions for special circumstance to be determined). A request form will be available on our website to complete if you do request a refund.
I don't know if I'll ever understand why people run marathons in big cities with big crowds when there is a Columbia River Marathon that BEATS everything in beauty, challenge, organization (and even great weather) ... Not enough words to describe...all Incredible! Huge Thanks!
Registration Capped at 1500 Runners
The one reoccurring theme we heard from all of you in the post event survey (besides the fact that the course is beautiful) was to stay a small and intimate event. One that has the small event look and feel with the big time amenities and support. We hear you loud and clear and have no desire to grow so big that we lose that personal touch and connection. So we will be capping registration at 1500 runners combined for all races. Do not wait until the last minute to register, as a reminder we sold out last year. Secure your spot early to make sure you are running the event!

Refunds and Transfers
There are no refunds issued for your registration however, we do offer the opportunity to transfer your registration to next year's event or to transfer your registration to another participant on the waiting list. This transfer must happen at least 1 month before the event. After that it gets super busy as we approach the event date and we will be unable to process any transfers. This is a courtesy we offer to our participants. But please don't ask us to extend it within that one month before the event.
If you are transferring your registration to someone else, you must let us know so we can update their contact info and family contacts in the event of an emergency. Anyone running under someone else's name will be disqualified and not eligible for an award/trophy.
